We would expect modern knee replacements to last at least 15-20 years. Older implants may wear out a little sooner. Towards the end of their lifespan, you may experience discomfort, the knee may feel a little unstable and may grate.
Mr Waters’s expertise lies in replacing worn-out artificial joints and contrary to popular belief, joints can be revised many times. There are a variety of prostheses that can be used depending on the degree of wear the knee has experienced. Mr Waters will discuss these with you.
The recovery from revision surgery is similar to the first operation. In most cases, you should be able to walk fully weight-bearing straight away.
